Approximately 25 sites were identified at the Honolulu and Apia workshops in 2004 for further evaluation for Living Archipelagos action. The nominated sites are listed below by region and country. Sites labeled with a (1) are currently considered a top choice for a given country, with (2) representing a lower priority. These sites are still preliminary and are undergoing further evaluation and consultation with government representatives, local decision-makers, and conservation partners. Following these consultations, we will select about ten priority LA sites, based upon ecological value and need, potential partners, and government endorsement.
Clicking on a given site will take you to a profile of the site. Profiles are meant to provide a snapshot of each of these ecological gems and include maps, information on species diversity and ecological importance, threats and endangerment, cultural importance, and conservation needs. Please note that some profiles are considered drafts and are marked as such. Additional profiles are also being written for newly nominated sites and will be posted to this website as they are finalized.
